Connecting to Internet

Introduction

Devices from the 150 & 60 Series can be configured to connect to the Internet on the Network & Time tab on Advannet. The configuration varies whether the device has a dynamic IP or static IP.

To have an Internet connection, devices need to be connected to a network with Internet access (not a local network LAN).

Device has a dynamic IP

By default, new devices are configured in DHCP, which means the router or switch you connect to will assign an automatic IP to your device.

You don't need to configure anything else, as the router will assign the rest of the needed information.

Device has a static IP

In this case, you need to manually configure the IP address, Gateway and DNS addresses.

In order to set the IP address, make sure your new static IP address is not used by other devices on the network (such as other readers, printers, etc.). Otherwise, the system won't work as expected as there will be an IP conflict.

If your IP address is, for example, 192.168.2.67, the Gateway is usually similar to 192.168.2.1.

You can use Google DNS addresses, such as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. It is advised to use more than one DNS address, in case one fails. If you use more than one, separate them by commas.

Here you can find an example:

If the configuration was set successfully, the Dashboard tab should show it.

I still don't have Internet connection

If you have already set up the configuration, but you still don't have access to the internet, take a look at these common situations:

The Internet availability LED is red

The Internet availability LED is orange

I am not sure if my device has a dynamic or static IP

You can check the current configuration on the Network & Time tab. If you cannot access Advannet, the diagram to discover devices may be useful for you.
