Installation
Installation Tips
Each AdvanSafe-200 primary unit can be connected to up to 1 secondary unit.
For installation, we recommend:
a separation between AdvanSafe units of about 2 metres.
that the AdvanSafe unit placed on the further left, and the AdvanSafe unit placed on the further right, are separated from the edge of the entrance about 1 metre
Therefore, we recommend the following configuration depending on the width of the store entrance:
up to 2 metres: 1 primary unit
2 m - 4 m: 1 primary unit + 1 secondary unit
4 m - 6 m: 2 primary units + 1 secondary unit
6 m - 8 m: 2 primary units + 2 secondary units
and so on
Primary/Secondary installation
Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide found at Download files chapter at the end of the page.

The diameter of the steel cable is 0.8 mm
AdvanSafe Secondary
AdvanSafe-200 Secondary units are extension units without active RF components. The Secondary can be thought as a beam switching antenna plus an LED bar. Secondary units contain three different connectors:
RF connector
Beam switching connector (Ethernet cable)
LED data cable (Data pair cable)
The three cables must be connected for proper Secondary operation
Secondary units are used to increase the reading area of AdvanSafe by attaching one AdvanSafe Secondary to an AdvanSafe Primary.
AdvanSafe Primary consists of an RFID reader, one beam switching antenna, a speaker and one LED.
AdvanSafe Secondary consists of one beam switching antenna and one LED.
Secondary units are configured from within the Primary unit they are connected to.
Secondary units do not have IP address or any other data interface for a remote data connection.
Only one Secondary can be connected to AdvanSafe-200 Primary
Physical Connection
Follow the image below to connect AdvanSafe-200 Primary and Secondary (remember to power the AdvanSafe Primary after doing the other two connections):
Secondary connection pictures
For a proper Secondary operation, the three connection cables must be present:
RF cable
Ethernet cable for the beam switching control
data pair for LED operation.
AdvanNet Configuration
Go to the RFID tab of AdvanSafe Primary and configure a new antenna on the port where the Secondary is connected.
Please note the order of the beams must follow the sequence displayed:
1,1
1,2
1,3
1,4
2,1
2,2
2,3
2,4
Go to the Events & Actions tab and configure an event to light up the LED (GPO_ACTION) of the Secondary when there is an alarm detected by the Secondary. If the Secondary is connected to the data cable number 2, the Line has to be 2.
Installation tips
Which is the maximum recommended distance between Primary and Secondary?
We do not recommend using cables larger than 5 meters.
What is the maximum height AdvanSafe will work at?
There is no single answer to that question, several factors must be taken into account:
RFID tag in use: more sensitive and powerful tags will perform better and would allow a higher installation.
Material to be tagged: some products may detune RFID tags and therefore decrease the overall system sensitivity. Those would be more affected by height.
Particular application: also the use case may affect the maximum height.
However, there are some simple recommendations:
This is a system designed to work with medium and high power tags: it won't work with jewelry tags or similar.
In general, the best high would be 2.5 meters: minimum high for people moving comfortably.
Above 3 meters it is important to: use powerful tags and verify the system performance.
Which materials and/or conditions may interfere AdvanSafe operation?
Generally speaking, AdvanSafe is quite robust against external interference. Some of the known sources of interference are:
Other RFID systems: having other RFID systems working very close to AdvanSafe-200 may produce uncontrolled effects: reduce system performance or in some cases increase the read range.
Large metallic pieces close to AdvanSafe: this is a condition that will certainly cause a nonpredictable deformation of the beam shape.
Material to be tagged: some products may detune RFID tags and therefore decrease the overall system sensitivity. Some of the products well known for detuning RFID or are difficult to read are:
Metal
Products containing water or liquids
Tags for glasses: specially when the arm is metallic.
Human body: the human body is a very efficient RFID shielding.
The human body is generally the biggest interference system. It is also required to test the final system to verify it works to meet requirements.
What is the coverage of AdvanSafe-200
The linear coverage of one AdvanSafe-200 unit is between 150 cm and 200 cm.
The distance (central point) between AdvanSafe-200 units must be between 150 cm and 200 cm.
What are the safety margins
As a general rule, the safety margins around AdvanSafe-200 units are: installation height /2 + 50 cm
For a unit installed at 250 cm: the margin is a circle of radius 175 cm.
For a unit installed at 300 cm: the margin is a circle of radius 200 cm.
