Direct USB connection

USB port should be used for maintenance only.

When using the USB cable remember to also power the unit with a PoE cable.

While the USB cable will power the controller board, it won't power the other parts of the system, resulting in errors that may appear as hardware errors.

Introduction

The direct USB connection has been tested on Windows 7,10 and Ubuntu 12.04. For Linux systems, it works without any installation, but for windows 10 there are some steps to do (steps might slightly differ for other Windows versions).

Setup

In order to use the USB connection, please follow these steps:

The right boot sequence must be followed!

If the USB cable is connected at boot time, the system may not boot properly, and the RFID and other hardware may not be powered at all.

Using Windows

Select Change adapter settings.

Find the USB interface and go to Properties by right-clicking.

Go to IPv4 Properties.

Set the static IP to 192.168.7.10 and the Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.

Using Linux

Linux systems already have drivers that detect automatically the USB connection.

Linux Mint (21.1 Cinnamon)

2. Click on the plus icon to add a new connection, choose an Ethernet connection type and click Create.

3. In the Ethernet tab select the USB interface’s MAC address in Device.

4. In the IPv4 Settings tab select the Manual method, click to Add an additional static address with IP 192.168.7.10 and a Netmask 24 and save the changes.
