Location estimate

Introduction

AdvanNet automatically performs an estimate of the location of tags. It is an estimate based on the reads of the same tag and the read characteristics.

Estimate location will only work in SEQUENTIAL mode.

When using AUTONOMOUS mode, each read is processed independently and therefore no estimate will be executed. In AUTONOMOUS mode the

antenna is the only source of location.

All information provided below this point has been tested with a particular setup, which consists of a vertical "matrix" of antennas, hanging on a wall in an open space.

If your solution lies on another antenna setup, the estimation approach might need some adjustments or a completely new approach.

How does it work

The approach takes into account all read characteristics provided by the RFID hardware. In general, if a tag has been read more often from an antenna A1 than from an antenna A2, the tag might be located closer to A1 than A2.

Below you can find a diagram of the matrix mentioned above:

More precisely, among other calculations, we have used the following formula:

P = 2·d

Where P stands for precision, and d stands for the distance between the antennas.

Giving a name to the location

When configuring an antenna, it is possible to add an alias or representative name to it by setting the Location ID. This way, it is easier to find it. For example: "middle" or "top left corner".

The Position (x,y,z) is also used to determine the relative position between the antennas and needs to be configured relative to a "main" antenna. In our matrix, it could be the one in the middle.

AdvanNet SW is only a 'box mover' with regards of the Location ID and location x, y and z.

The values introduced by the user are returned as information location information.

Where can I find the location

You can find the approximate location of the tags on the CSV log file that can be exported from the System tab:

Troubleshooting

1. The CSV does not contain location data

The CSV sub-system must be configured to export location data. Please contact support@keonn.com in case location data is missing.
